Some points from a conversation with a Korean friend about learning. I found it particularly interesting as he teaches English at a university. Any thoughts? Please leave a comment!
- Students of Korean should just learn one of the many politeness levels in the short term and hope everyone else will forgive your uncouthness.
- Also, it may be worth choosing a primary medium (writing or speaking) and then cross the bridges as you come to them, e.g. 근데 vs 그렇지만, 항상 vs 맨날 etc.
- Formal courses need not consist purely of what a Korean scholar finds interesting.
- Repetition is (still) an undervalued and misused skill.
