Whether or not you V, it's the same: (으)나마나

V + (으) 나마나 is used to show that whether you perform the action or not, the result is the same:

터미널에 가나마나 아마 마지막 버스를 출발했어요.

It doesn’t matter whether or not you go to the terminal, the last bus has already left.

해보나마나 게임을 이기는 것이 불가능해요.

It doesn’t matter whether you try — it’s impossible to win this game.

물어보나마나 안 된다고 할 거예요.

There’s no point asking, they will say no.

이 책은 읽으나마나 재미 없어요

There’s no point reading this book — it’s boring.

맛 없으나마나 학생들이 학교 밥을 먹어요.

Whether or not the food it’s delicious, students always eat it.

-든(가), -건

무슬림이든(가) 아니든(가) 라마단 동안에 사우디에 서 아무도 공공장소에서 먹거나 마시지면 안 돼요.

Whether you’re Muslim or not, during Ramadan, no-one in Saudi Arabia is allowed to eat or drink in public in the daytime.

비가 오든(가) 말든(가) 간에 축구를 하려고 해요.

We’re going to play football whether it rains or not.

늦게 잠을 자든(가) 말든(가) 아침에 일어날 때 항상 피곤해요.

I’m always tired when I wake up in the morning, whether I sleep late or not.

제에게 편지를 쓰든(가) 이메일을 보내든(가) 대답에 기대돼요.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you whether you write me a letter or send me an email.

바쁘든(가) 말든(가) 아이들과 시간을 보내야지.

Whether you’re busy or not, you should spend time with your children.

In the case of A/V/N + 건, 간에 and 상관없이 can be added for emphasis:

한국인건 영국인상관없이 외국어를 배우는 것은 어려워요.

It is difficult to learn a foreign language whether you are Korean or British.

집에서 먹건 외출하건 건강하게 식사해야지.

Whether you eat at home or go out, you should eat healthily.

운전하건 버스로 가건 상관없이 같은 시간이 걸리더라고요.

It takes the same amount of time, whether you drive or take a bus.

누가 문이 노크하건 간에 문을 열지 마.

Whoever comes to the door, don’t open it.
