To make/force/let/encourage N do V: (으)로 하여금

N + 으로 하여금 is a causative construction that shows that the preceding noun is being compelled to do something. The structure sometimes appears together with:

• 하게 하다 (to make sb V)
• 도록 하다 (in order to V)
• 하게 하기 위해 (for the purpose of making sb V)
• 하게 만든다 (to make sb V)
• 하게 강요하다 (to force sb to V)

코로나바이러스는 사람들로 하여금 해외여행 하는 것을 두려워하게 해요.

The coronavirus makes people afraid to travel abroad.

국가 대표팀은 시민들로 하여금 자랑스러움을 느끼도록 해줄 수 있어요.
