Worrying about V-ing/hesitating to V: 자니

V + 자니 indicates that you are worried about doing something, or hesitant to do it because of the expected result:

유학을 하자니 성적이 충분한지 모르겠어요.

I don’t know if my grades are good enough to study abroad.

한국에서 공부하자니 돈이 충분히 없고 해서 고민이에요.

I’m worried that I don’t have enough money to study in Korea.

동아시아에 여행하자니 코로나바이러스 때문에 안전한지 걱정돼요.

Because of the coronavirus I’m worried that it won’t be safe to travel in East Asia.

휴가 때 여행을 가자니 돈도 없고 해서 그냥 집에서 쉬려고 해요.

I don’t have money to travel on vacation, so I’m just going to rest at home.

차로 출퇴근하자니 기름값이 상당히 많이 들어요.

It costs a lot to drive to and from work (so I’m not sure about commuting by car).

피부과에 다니자니 시간도 없고해서 약국에 스킨연고를 사서 집에서 사용할 거예요.

I worried I won’t have time to go to the dermatologist, so I’ll buy skin cream at the pharmacy and use it at home.

Using **자니** twice in the sentence gives the feeling of hesitating between two imperfect options:

사무실 근처로 이사 가자니 월세가 비싸고 지금 사는 집에서 계속 살자니 이웃이 시끄러워요.

It’s expensive to move and live near to the office, but if I stay in my current house the neighbours are noisy.

공부하자니 졸리고 잠자리에 들자니 시험이 걱정이 되네요.

Studying makes me sleepy, but when I go to bed I worry about the exam.

버스를 타자니 내내 서 있는 것이 힘들 것 같고 지하철을 타자니 몹시 붐벼요.

It’s hard to stand all the way on the bus, and it’s very crowded to take the subway.

재사용 봉투를 가지고 다니자니 귀찮고 비닐봉투를 사용하자니 환경에 나쁘겠어요.

It’s a hassle to carry around reusable bags, and it’s bad for the environment to use plastic bags.

지하철을 타자니 중간에 갈아타기 위해 걷는 거리가 만만치 않고, 버스를 타자니 정류장에서 오랫동안 기다려야 해요. 

When I take the subway the walking long distances to transfer is not easy, and when I take the bus, I end up waiting for a long time at the bus stop.
